On Election Day, Precinct Officers (also known as Poll Workers) provide essential service to the community by greeting and processing voters. This opportunity is such a rewarding experience that many people return election after election to serve. We encourage you to become a Precinct Officer for Sacramento County.
To become a Precinct Officer you must meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age and a registered voter in California
- Read and write English
- Available to work on Election Day from 6:00 a.m. until all duties are completed (approximately 10:00 p.m.)
- Attend a mandatory training class prior to each election (approximately 3 hours)
- Have transportation to and from the mandatory training class and to the polling place on Election Day
We also encourage the following

- State and County Employees to become Poll Workers
- High school students at least 16 years of age and in good academic standing
Duties:
- Prepare, open, maintain and close the polling place on Election Day
- Find voters names on the Roster of Voters and Street Index
- Issue and receive official ballots from the voters
- Assist voters in the voting process
- Perform duties as assigned by the Elections Department and the Precinct Inspector
Payment:
- Clerks receive a base pay of $100.00 and $25.00 for training.
- Inspectors receive a base pay of $150.00, $25.00 for training. The Inspectors are assigned additional duties and responsibilities.
