Board of Supervisors Agree on Final Redistricting Plan, Adopt Ordinance
Redistricting is required after each US census to adjust the boundaries to make them as equal in population as possible. On October 4, 2011, the Board of Supervisors adopted an ordinance to legally change the district boundaries. The new boundaries will take effect 30 days following the adoption of the ordinance on November 3, 2011. See final plan.

Sacramento County is required to adjust, or redistrict, supervisorial district boundaries every ten years following the U.S. Census. The new boundaries must be drawn to balance the population while taking into account communities of interest.
According to the 2010 Census, the total population for Sacramento County is 1,418,788. That is an increase of 195,289 residents over the last 10 years, or a 16% increase. This increase will require adjustments in the Supervisors’ district boundaries.
Public participation and input are very important in the redistricting process. Community workshops will be held throughout the County to give you an opportunity to learn more about the redistricting process and provide input on draft redistricting plans.
Comments received by 5 p.m. on June 16, 2011 will be included in the final report to the Board of Supervisors in July.
Comments received after June 16 will be forwarded directly to the Board of Supervisors.
