To promote and encourage young adults to vote, Sacramento County's Voter Registration & Elections has teamed up with the Secretary of State's office and the Sacramento City Unified School District to create a program called “Get Up-Stand Up-Vote.” The students learn how to register to vote, train to work the polls and simulate a mock election.
Additional high schools in Sacramento County may be targeted for the “Get Up-Stand Up-Vote” project in the future. The five high schools currently participating in this project include:
Our first mock election was conducted on November 3rd at C.K McClatchy High School for the entire senior class. The participation and comments from students and teachers were phenomenal! View the Survey Results of Mock Election as well as photos of the event.
Our next mock election was conducted on June 6th at Hiram Johnson, Luther Burbank and Kennedy High Schools to promote and encourage young adults to vote. Senator Deborah Ortiz and Secretary of State Bruce McPherson were in attendance at the Kennedy High School mock election to observe the voting as well as talk with the seniors about the importance of voting and participating in the democratic process.
